Wow, it's been such a long time since I've updated my website and my teaching blog, and I would have to say, SO much has happened during this past year and a half since my last blog post.
Following my teaching career as a pre-kindergarten teacher, I moved onto teaching first grade in Chesterfield County Public Schools. I absolutely loved teaching first grade and being a teacher in a public school; however, after my year contract, I had this burning desire to still teach abroad, and I figured...now would be the best time as ever to pursue that dream. So, after my first year of teaching first grade, I made the decision to not re-new my contract, and pursue my dream of teaching abroad.
And now, I'm sitting in a cafe in, South Korea, blogging and going into my 4th month teaching kindergarten and instructing several different English classes in the afternoon for elementary students in South Korea. I couldn't be more happier with the decision I made and will have to do several separate blog posts to update my teaching experiences as a first grade teacher, and my teaching journey thus far in South Korea.
As I reflect on my teaching journey post graduate school (going on my 3rd year of teaching), I've come to realize that each teaching experience I've had (pre-kindergarten at a private daycare, first grade in a public school, and kindergarten in South Korea), has been an absolutely beautiful teaching journey and has taught me so much, not only as a teacher, but personally as well.
Originally, before I even graduated grad school, I assumed that once I became a teacher, that was all there would be. And I was perfectly okay with that, because teaching is what I am passionate about and what my career is. However, I didn't realize the endless opportunities teaching could give me or the possible growth I could and would receive, both academically/educationally, professionally, and personally.
Simply put, teaching is the one career that encompasses so many others while simultaneously providing constant growth, both in and outside the classroom. And I love that I've chosen teaching to be my career. There's a new journey to unfold everyday.
